I’m back with another delicious recipe, and this time we are making buttermilk mashed potatoes! You know that little carton over in the dairy section that often gets neglected? That’s buttermilk. It’s thick, it’s sour, but in mashed potatoes it’s creamy, savory delight! Before we jump into the recipe, let’s take a look at this dish in game…
As always, I try to stay as close to the authentic recipe from Tyria so we won’t be adding bacon, cheese, sour cream, etc. to our potatoes. However, with this recipe I think you will be pleasantly surprised that you don’t need any “extras” to make it taste good.
Now then, let’s jump into the recipe! 🙂
Tyrian Mashed Potatoes
- 8 medium-large waxy potatoes (Gold or Red), diced small
- 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 1 cup of Buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons salt
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
Step 1: In a large stock pot, put your diced potatoes in and fill with water until everything is submerged.
Step 2: Over medium-high heat, boil the potatoes until tender. (Mine took about 30 minutes). Note: Keep an eye on your potatoes as they boil and use a cooking spoon to scoop off any scum/starch that rises to the top.
Step 3: Drain the potatoes and put into a large bowl or stand mixer.
Step 4: Whip or manually mash the potatoes until they are smooth. As they’re mixing, add the butter, buttermilk, salt, and white pepper. Continue whipping until everything is smooth and well combined.
Step 5: Serve with your favorite protein or top with chives and dig in! Hehe!
